Fischer breaks collarbone

Jeff Fischer, Utah State’s senior backup quarterback, broke his collarbone in practice Thursday morning and is done for the season.

“broke my collar bone into 3 pieces at practice this morning,” Fischer wrote in his Facebook page, “have surgery 2morrow… horrible timing.”

The development does, indeed, come at a horrible time for the Aggies. With Fischer out of the picture, USU now moves the duo of true freshmen quarterbacks Jeremy Higgins and Alex Hart up the depth chart.

During Tuesday’s scrimmage, Higgins appeared to be ahead of Hart, a Jordan High product, in the pecking order and may have a leg up in the competition to be the primary backup. Higgins has a skillset more similar to that of starting quarterback Diondre Borel and can use his legs to create offense as well as his arm.
