USU lands new running back
Robert Marshall, a bruising 6-foot-1, 230-pound running back out of Maceo Smith High School in Dallas, has committed to play for Utah State.
He’ll join the team in time for the upcoming season, shoring up and providing depth to a position still hurting from the injury to star running back Robert Turbin.
A source close to the USU football team told the Deseret News that Marshall is on campus now and working out with Aggie players. But because of NCAA guidelines, Marshall will not be able to sign his National Letter of Intent until the fall semester begins.
Marshall rushed for more than 1,100 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior at Smith High in only nine games.
He was named to the Texas All District 4A-11 football team and had been recruited by schools such as Kansas, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Arkansas, UTEP and Texas A&M but never signed with any school.
His brother, DJ, plays for defensive end Kansas but was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma during his freshman season last year.

The source at USU said Marshall has the powerful running style Utah State loves, but needs to work a little more on his speed to compete at the Division I level.
