Utah State head football coach Gary Andersen announced the signing of another student-athlete to a letter of intent to play for the Aggies, adding Kyler Fackrell to USU’s 2010 signing class.
Fackrell, a 6-5, 205-pound linebacker, is from Mesa, Ariz., where he was a four-year letterwinner at Mesa High School, playing linebacker all season while also playing quarterback for three games and wide receiver in the others.
He earned 5A-I all-region and all-Mesa Tribune honors on both offense and defense in leading the Jackrabbits to a 9-5 record and runner-up in the State 5A-I playoffs, Mesa HS’s first 5A state championship game appearance in 17 years. Fackrell posted 68 tackles (25 solo, 43 assists) with eight pass break-ups, two interceptions and one forced fumble.
On offense, Fackrell tallied 36 receptions for 662 yards (18.3 ypc) with five TD’s and a season-long of 63 yards. He also had 22 rushes for 159 yards (7.2 ypc) with three TD’s and a season-long of 97 yards. Fackrell was also 22-of-38 (.579) passing for 334 yards (15.2 ypp) with four TD’s and one INT. Fackrell’s 97-yard TD run tied the second-longest rush in school history, which came on Oct. 2 as part of his 103 rushing yard outing along with four catches for 65 yards , earning him the U.S. Air Force Team Player of the Week award.
In 2008, Fackrell also earned MHS’s MVP award after starting at quarterback, safety and kick/punt return specialist, along with 5A-I all-region honors. He also earned 5A-I all-region honors in both basketball and volleyball, and was a four-time letterwinner in basketball and a two-time letterwinner in volleyball.
Fackrell’s signing brings USU’s signing class back up to 28, after mid-year signing and junior college transfer Jeremy LaPan left the program in February.
