Catching up with Stavon Williams

Many at Utah State were surprised when Stavon Williams left the team following the Aggies’ 30-5 season of 2008-09.

Williams was the primary gunner off the bench, often providing instant offense from the wing and on a couple of occasions being the difference between winning and losing.

He never truly felt at home in Logan, though, and decided to take his game elsewhere after his junior season. He landed at Angelo State University in Texas, a Division II school.

Starting 26 of the Rams’ 28 games, Williams averaged 15 points, 4.4 rebounds and nearly two assists per game. The 6-foot-3 Minnesota native struggled a bit with his shot, averaging 31.8 percent from 3-point range and 44 percent overall.

The Rams finished the season with a 17-11 record and lost to Northeastern State Wednesday in the first round of the Lone Star Conference tournament. Williams led the team with 24 points.
