Utah State, if the Aggies don’t win the WAC Tournament and the accompanying automatic berth into the NCAA tourney, are building a hard-to-ignore case for at-large consideration.
Here’s what ESPN has to say about Utah State:
“Utah State [22-6 (11-2), RPI: 35, SOS: 78] The Aggies have won 12 games in a row and seem to be in better position as other teams keep falling off the bubble board. Utah State has one victory over an RPI top-50 opponent, beating BYU 71-61 at home on Dec. 2. Utah State’s schedule strength is still questionable, with 13 of its 21 victories coming against RPI sub-100 opponents (seven against sub-200 teams). The Aggies play at Hawaii on Thursday and host Fresno State on March 1. They close the regular season at home against New Mexico State on March 6. The Aggies probably can’t afford another loss in the regular season and need to win at least a couple of games in next month’s WAC tournament to have a decent chance on Selection Sunday.”
