USU social media questions
Aggie fans,
In addition to covering the games and writing features about Utah State, I try to break news about recruting, injuries, coaching changes, etc. In this modern world, news like that often can’t wait until the paper hits your porch in the morning. We’d like to get it to you as early as possible while also striving for accuracy.
That means getting updates on this blog, on the DeseretNews.com site and even on my twitter feed at twitter.com/DesNewsEborn.
So I have some questions for you, the Aggie fanbase, about what you’d like to see on these newer, more immediate forms of media.
Many of you are already following my twitter account. If you are, you’ve probably noticed I will send updates during games that delve a little more deeply into the game than just giving you a score. In 140 characters or less, I try to spot scoring trends, giving running updates on a selected stat of the day or note when a player appears to have been injured during the game.
These ‘tweets’ are intended to provide a glimpse of the action from my press row seat that might not been noticed by the average fan — especially those unable to be at the game. The thing about twitter that is compelling to me is the immediacy and deliverability of the content. If you have a twitter account and select the option to have message delivered to your mobile devise, my live-game updates are sent directly to your phone as a text message. You won’t need to follow a link or leave whatever you are doing at the time to log into the internet to get the updates. I click enter and a few seconds later the update appears on your phone right next to the one from your kid asking you to pick them up after school because they missed the bus or the one from your spouse asking you to grab a gallon of milk and some eggs on your way home from work.
When it’s not game time, I try to include links to articles in the Deseret News and other media outlets about USU. As you’ve probably noticed, there are more ways to report the news than ever out there and that means there are countless bits of information. When I find something relevant or of interest I’ll try to forward the link to you via my twitter feed or this blog.
So, I’m asking you — the Aggie fan — to give me some feedback and direction. What do you like about social media and what do you want to see on it?
If you’d like, please send me an e-mail at jeborn@desnews.com with your suggestions.
Thanks,
Jared
