Diaz and Johnson verbal to USU

Nick Diaz, a kicker from Redondo Beach, Calif., and Shaan Johnson, a 6-foot-2 receiver from Cerritos, Calif., both gave USU football coach Gary Andersen verbal commitments Saturday during their recruiting trips to Logan and Utah State, a source close to the USU football team said.

Diaz was coached as a kicker at camps by former USU kicker Brad Bohn.

Johnson had 76 catches for 1,451 yards and 17 touchdowns at Gahr High.

The duo is part of a recruiting party of at least six high school players including talented linebacker VJ Fehoko, a highly-sought-after 4-star player from Farrington High in Honolulu.
