USU gets commit from Washington OL Brooks Abel

Utah State received a verbal commitment from Brooks Abel, a massive offensive lineman out of Kentwood High in Washington State and the College of the Siskiyous in California.

The 6-foot-6, 310-pounder is eligible to enroll at Utah State now and will sign a mid-year letter of intent as early as today.

“Brooks Abel verbally committed to Utah State,” is the status on the lineman’s Facebook page, updated on Tuesday.

Abel was part of a group of recruits that made an official visit to Utah State last weekend and, after thinking about it for a couple of days, decided to sign with the Aggies.

He is a freshman but already has his academics in order and will arrive in Logan in time for spring semester next month. He will have three years of eligibility remaining with USU.

Abel is expected to compete right away from a starting spot on the USU line and help pave the way for running back Robert Turbin.

The College of the Siskiyous ran for 1,872 yards and passed for 2,532 in 10 games last year.
