Pregame hoops observations
It’s almost tip time at the Spectrum as Utah State prepares to take on Canada’s Trinity Western in an exhibition game.
Here are a few items I’ve noticed:
Pooh Williams is in his street clothes and clearly not ready to suit up for playing time. But he’s not wearing a boot or walking with a limp.
He’ll probably miss the season opener at Weber State, but be ready to go shortly after that. I’d be surprised if Williams is not in the lineup when the Aggies tip off against Idaho State in their home opener.
Tyrone White looks smooth and graceful. The freshman out of Air Force Prep and Portland, Oregon, is a lanky 6-6, 175 pounder who seems to be a natural small forward with the potential to play some shooting guard as he develops his game.
Jaxon Myaer, broken cheekbone, is warming up without a face mask. Doesn’t mean he won’t be playing with it. No sense in taking ANY risks in an exhibition game.
The crowd is late-arriving, but looks like it will be about 6,000 or so.
The pep band took the night off.
I’m trying to persuade the powers that be to pipe the Utah State football game into the big screen on the scoreboard after hoops wraps up.
