WAC preseason basketball poll

The Mountain West announced its preseason basketball polls on Tuesday and that resulted in my inbox getting a few e-mails about when the WAC would do the same thing.

The answer? I don’t know. But it won’t be until Oct. 14 at the earliest because the media was given a deadline of Oct. 13 to submit their ballots.

I didn’t take that long. In fact, I submitted my ballot yesterday and I’ll let you, my faithful readers, get a sneak peak at it.

1. Utah State
2. Nevada
3. Idaho
4. Fresno State
5. New Mexico State
6. Louisiana Tech
7. Boise State
8. San Jose State
9. Hawaii

The WAC is deep this year. VERY DEEP and will probably be rated higher than the MWC if the non-conference schedules are stepped up across the league.

A year ago, there were 20 seniors in the WAC. That’s right, among nine teams there were only 20 seniors. Of those, only eight were starters.

What that means is every team in the conference has at least three starters from last season back on the floor this year. Utah State has four starters back and is my pick to repeat as WAC champions because they have depth, skill and Stew Morrill.

Until someone knocks them off, I’m not a big fan of predicting any defending champion with four starters returning won’t repeat.
