Word surfaced over the weekend that Ashton Jefferson, thought to be one of the highlights of Gary Andersen’s first class of recruits to Utah State, is going to Oregon State instead.
Jefferson — a league and county MVP from Alvin, Texas — had confirmed twice with the Deseret News that he intended to sign with the Aggies. But Pac 10 Oregon State came in late and reportedly made a scholarship offer to the honorable mention all-state player. National recruiting web sites like scout.com and rivals.com have Jefferson as part of Oregon State’s list of committments.
According to those sites, Jefferson has not had an official visit to the Corvalis school or any direct contact with Beaver coaches. But he reportedly accepted the scholarship offer.
National Letter of Intent signing day is coming up quickly and if Andersen hopes to keep Jefferson committed to Utah State, the new Aggie coach will need to do some quick salesmanship it appears.
