Gary Andersen’s first class of recruits to Utah State keeps getting bigger. This time, it’s a big, bruising running back from Texas that has pledged to sign with the Aggies in a couple of weeks.
Alvin, Texas rusher Ashton Jefferson committed to sign with USU this morning, a source close to the Aggie football office told the Deseret News on Tuesday morning.
Jefferson rushed for 1,518 yards and 14 touchdowns this year and was being recruited by Utah, Teas A&M and Minnesota.
Though he played for a team that won only two games, Jefferson was named the Texas District 24 5A player of the year. He accounted for nearly 75 percent of the Yellowjackets’ offense as a senior and also returned 13 kicks for 398 yards. He was named the Brazoria County offensive player of the year.
Jefferson’s committment brings USU’s total recruits to 18.
Another recruit, Las Vegas running back Marcus Sullivan, is thought to be leaning toward signing with the Aggies after meeting with Andersen in Nevada yesterday.
