The timing of this news isn’t terribly surprising. But Utah State has lost one of its players.
Richard Sirju, who had not gotten off the bench in a few weeks, took an early trip home to Florida for Christmas and will not return.
The 6-foot-2 transfer from Daytona Beach CC, has played in only three games and logged only 23 minutes.
“Richie wants to be closer to home with a better opportunity for playing time,” said Morrill. “He is a quality young man and we wish him all the best.”
Sirju came to USU with the potential to be a high-scoring two-guard. He ended up never quite cracking the Aggies’ lineup and now he’ll likely end up playing for a DII school if he expects to play again.
His departure, between semesters, leaves the Aggies with two spots to replace in the next recruiting season. Center Gary Wilkinson is the only senior on the roster and his spot has already been filled by SLCC forward Nate Bendall — a former Aggie himself.
Morrill will now be able to go out and find one more player to add to his 2009-10 team.
